Through a YouGov poll, we asked the public which essential local services they would like to see prioritised in the UK. Unity then commissioned in-depth research into the findings to understand the opportunities and challenges that exist and to identify long-term solutions.
Our first study looked at the care sector. after 43% of those polled said support in later life was their main area of concern.
Emma Stacey, Head of Marketing at Unity Trust Bank, said: “As a social impact bank, Unity supports organisations that deliver essential services. These are in sectors such as healthcare, housing and education. People are at the heart of everything we do, so we wanted to find out what matters most to them. After listening to what people said in our poll, we conducted a deep analysis of the key issues raised, starting with care homes. We wanted to look at the role private finance can play in the national renewal of such a vital service.”
Our first white paper looks at care home provision in all 543 Westminster parliamentary constituencies. Our research reveals that postcodes currently determine whether there’s adequate provision or not. And it also shows how popular retirement destinations suffer from an acute shortage of facilities.
Colin Fyfe, CEO at Unity Trust Bank, said: “We hope our campaign starts a conversation that is long overdue. That it brings together policymakers, providers, investors and communities around a shared understanding of what it will take to sustain the services people depend on. That is the spirit in which this research is offered, and we are glad you are part of it.”
