An entrepreneur whose independent veterinary group is listed in the Top 50 fastest growing businesses in South Wales has opened his third practice in Cardiff

Greg Elliott launched Live Well Vets in Llantrisant in 2023 after being underwhelmed by his own experience visiting a vet. The former business executive opened a second site in Caerphilly a year later, and officially opened his third Whitchurch practice in 2026, thanks to six-figure funding from business bank Unity Trust Bank. The three sites are strategically located 20 miles apart. They collectively offer clients some of the most advanced veterinary care and services including orthopaedics, cardiology, ophthalmology and soft tissue surgery.

Greg said: “I spent years in corporate jobs and became tired of sitting round board tables. I wanted to be part of something impactful but wasn’t sure what. After taking my dog to the vets one day I walked away feeling the experience could be greatly improved. While animals are on a clinical journey, us humans are on an emotional one. I felt both weren’t being addressed properly so I decided to change that.”

Greg spent four years extensively researching the veterinary sector. He opened his practices in vacant town centre premises, helping to breathe new life into each area. Employing 38 people across all three sites, Live Well Vets has scooped an array of awards and is recognised as one of the best performing businesses in Wales.

The Whitchurch practice replaces the old Lloyds bank branch. It has three consultation rooms, two operating theatres, a dedicated ultrasound room, X-ray suite and dental suite with dental X-ray. It also has a fully equipped laboratory, two preparation areas, and separate dog and cat wards.

Greg said: “Our investment in a CT scanner for example, one of only three in South Wales, and endoscopy means our clients and other veterinary practices in the region don’t have to spend up to two hours going over the bridge to Bristol. Education is also important to us. We follow a wellness model rather than an illness model. By carrying out regular checks on pets we can spot things early and intervene.

“The main reason my vision for Live Well Vets has come true though is down to our fantastic team and the way they look after our clients and their pets. It’s a privilege when someone trusts us with their pet. Everyone takes pride in their work and is passionate about delivering the best care possible.”

Greg said he left his high street bank and switched to Unity because of the bank’s ethical values. He also values the personal support he gets from his Relationship Manager, Martin Leake.

Martin said: “Veterinary practices are more than healthcare providers for animals. They are trusted community businesses that support local families, create skilled jobs and help people care for cherished members of their households. By providing tailored finance to veterinary practices, we’re helping ensure that vital services remain accessible, sustainable and able to meet the needs of communities for years to come. What Greg and his team have achieved in such a short period of time with Live Well Vets is commendable. Unity is delighted to support his business as it goes from strength to strength.”

Around 50 people attended the open day, including Anna McMorrin, MP for Cardiff North. The open day allowed families to get a ‘behind the scenes’ look at what happens at a veterinary practice, helping take the mystery out of veterinary care.
