Every year since 2012, we’ve documented our achievements in an annual Impact Report. Explore our journey below.
In 2024, we lent over £1 billion to 714 organisations across the UK, with 50% of our loans going to organisations based in areas of high deprivation (up from 45% in 2023). We also doubled our commitment to decarbonising social housing, allocating £50 million to our newly launched Retrofit Transition Initiative.
In 2023, we provided £263.8 million in lending to 162 socially minded organisations across the UK, supporting progress towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our total loan portfolio surpassed £1 billion, with 45% directed to areas of high deprivation. Customer feedback remained strong, with 92% reporting they were satisfied or extremely satisfied with our services.
In 2022, we unveiled our refreshed brand identity with the launch of our newly designed Impact Report. That year, our financing empowered customers to renovate care homes, creating or enhancing 890 bed spaces, while also supporting 846 daycare places across early years and specialist education services.
Building on a sustained period of growth, Unity recorded a 47% rise in profit before tax and a 20% increase in customer lending compared with 2020. In 2021, our financing helped create or safeguard 795 jobs, and we were honoured with the NACFB Patron Award for Socially Responsible Lender of the Year.
2020 bought a difficult year for businesses across the UK with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Unity boasted 97% of Covid related customer applications approved and £13.5m in new lending to pharmacies across the UK. Unity also reduced 35% in paper-use by adopting online automation and celebrated our 7th year of being Fair Tax accredited.
Unity in 2019 showed another strong year for growth, with £159m in loans. With 1,188 Bed spaces created and renovated, 437 people housed and 28 community facilities provided. 2019 also showed a strong year for Unity in the community, with 278 volunteer days completed across 73 organisation and £8,065.20 raised by staff in donations to good causes.
In 2018, we delivered strong lending performance, providing £125.8 million in loans. This financing supported 16 apprenticeships, training programmes and internships, helped create or safeguard 962 jobs, and enabled the creation or renovation of 597 bed spaces.
In 2017, Unity in the Community achieved strong results, with employees contributing 209 volunteering days. An impressive 95% of our workforce took part, supporting 54 organisations across the UK.
In 2016, our annual Impact Report showcased the creation and protection of 1,895 jobs, the support of 15 community facilities, and the development or renovation of 1,026 bed spaces.
In 2015, Unity grew lending by 56% compared with 2014. This financing enabled customers to deliver 506 bed spaces, create or safeguard 3,773 jobs, and purchase or preserve 13 community facilities.
In 2014, we broadened the scope of our annual Impact Report to feature more detailed figures, statistics, accreditations, and inspiring customer success stories. That year, our support led to the creation of 176 bed spaces and the creation or protection of 3,423 jobs, while our staff dedicated 175 days to volunteering.
In 2013, our Impact Report highlighted significant annual growth, with lending more than doubling compared to 2012. Overall, 56% of the organisations we supported were charities, and our financing helped create and retain 2,143 jobs across the UK.
In 2012, we published our first annual Impact Report, marking the beginning of Unity’s journey in measuring the impact of our lending. That year, we provided £19 million in loans to customers across the social economy, with 41% directed towards community developments.
