Unity Trust Bank was proud to sponsor the Centre for the New Midlands Winter Reception 2023. This reinforced the bank’s commitment to supporting social and economic impact.

The Centre for the New Midlands is an independent, not-for-profit think tank. It is focussed on the creation and sharing of new ideas to build a better West Midlands.

The event was hosted at the prestigious Churchill Room in the Palace of Westminster in December 2023. The Winter Reception welcomed members and contributors to the Centre’s ‘Reimagining the Region’ network. The evening included networking and presentations from thought leaders on regional development opportunities for the West Midlands.

Unity Trust Bank’s Chief Commercial Officer, Alexandra Rice, and Head of Impact and Sustainability, Joshua Meek, were both key speakers at the event.

Highlighting Unity’s strong commitment to delivering positive impact with our customers, Joshua provided insights into the bank’s initiatives. We aim to drive social and environmental impact across the West Midlands and beyond. Joshua also reflected Unity’s position as a socially- responsible and forward-thinking financial partner.

Alexandra Rice emphasised how Unity’s commercial strategy was targeted exclusively on supporting small and medium businesses and organisations that are delivering positive social impact in their communities. Alexandra highlighted that this ensured alignment between the organisation’s core values, its focus on customer needs, and its subsequent performance and results.

The Winter Reception also welcomed guest speakers Lucy Powell, MP for Manchester Central. Lucy shared some of her experiences in Westminster with the attendees. Richard Parker, who is standing for the Mayoralty of the West Midlands, also gave a presentation. Lucy and Richard shared their insights and aspirations for the West Midlands, contributing to a clear sense of progress and opportunity for the region.

Reflecting on his participation, Joshua said, “I was pleased to join the Centre for the New Midlands Winter Reception and hear first-hand from members and organisations about their work and ambition to deliver social and economic change for the region. The Centre for New Midlands is a think tank for the region and from the region. As a Birmingham based bank, it is important for us to attend events like this. It shows like-minded organisations how we can work together to actively driving positive change for the West Midlands.”

Alexandra added: “We were proud to sponsor the Centre for the New Midlands Winter Reception. It’s a pleasure to support the organisation’s important work to help shape a better and brighter future for the West Midlands. The event enabled us to highlight Unity’s unique role in supporting businesses and individuals who are making a positive impact. Together, we can play a vital part in the region’s growth and continued transformation.”
