Accounting Software FAQs – General (not software specific)
Accounting software integration is the process of connecting your business bank accounts to accounting software, for example Xero, QuickBooks or Sage. It automatically imports financial transactions so you can reconcile payments, track expenses and manage cash flows without manual uploads.
Once connected, your transactions will flow into your accounting software each business day, without the need to manually refresh the bank feed. When you first connect, you can choose to share up to 12 months of historical transactions, giving you a complete view of your recent activity.
Accounting software integration works by:
It saves time, eliminates the need for manual data entry, reduces errors, and provides real-time financial insights by syncing information directly from your bank accounts, without having to download or upload statements. It is also completely optional, you can continue using manual processes if you wish.
Yes. Unity Trust Bank ensures data protection through Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIA) which ensure data privacy, security, quality and compliance with UK General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) & Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). This is mandatory for all processing and identifies the data assets, the data retention and where high-risk processing or special category of data is used, a DPIA is performed. We also employ a number of security tools and services to ensure the confidentiality, security and availability of ours and our customers data.
Integrations are secure, encrypted connections approved under UK Open Banking regulations. You control access permissions and can revoke them at anytime through Online Banking or accounting software settings.
UK Open Banking regulations are a set of rules, primarily based on the Payment Services Regulations 2017 and overseen by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), that require banks to share customer data securely with third-party providers, with customer consent. The regulations enable two main services: allowing third parties to initiate payments on your behalf (Payment Initiation Services) and giving third parties access to your account information (Account Information Services). Providers must be regulated by the FCA to ensure data security and customer protection.

Accounting Software FAQs – Xero specific
There are two ways to connect your Unity Trust Bank accounts to Xero.
We’ve created this handy Xero User Guide to take you through the set up process.
A Xero bank feed is a secure connection that automatically sends your Unity Trust Bank account transactions to Xero each business day. Once connected, your transactions flow directly into Xero, ready for reconciliation.
Yes. It’s important that you check your account details in Xero before attempting to connect with your Unity Trust Bank account. If you have already set up Unity accounts in Xero for manual entry or transaction imports, please ensure that the sort codes and account numbers for the accounts in Xero match the Unity accounts listed before connecting them.
To check that the accounts you’ve created in Xero have the correct sort codes and account numbers, follow these steps:
Once you have connected to Xero, log in to Online Banking, navigate to the Account Management page and select “Manage integrations”. This page shows a list of your accounts and their specific integration status. Here’s what each one means:
While your Unity Trust Bank account is connected to Xero and you have opted in, Xero will have access to and process the following data from the account(s) you’ve chosen:
This access continues until you remove the connection. For more detail on how your information is used and protected, please see Xero’s Privacy Notice on their website.
We’ll use all information to protect you, and ourselves, from financial crime. We take our obligation to protect your data very seriously. All the information you provide will be subject to our Data Privacy Notice and used solely for the purposes of integrating your Unity Trust Bank account with Xero. Your information will not be passed to any third parties for marketing purposes, but may be passed to fraud prevention agencies.
If you’ve already set up Unity accounts in Xero to enter manually or import transactions, we recommend starting your bank feeds on a date after the last manually entered transaction. Entering an earlier date could result in duplicate transactions. Please note that you cannot change the date once connected.
If you want to select distinct import dates for different accounts, please connect each account separately.
