Double achievement for Unity Trust Bank with The Sunday Times Best Companies accolade and Investors in People GoldPress Releases Published: January 12, 2015 9:50 am
Unity Trust Bank has been awarded Gold status by Investors in People (IIP), the UK’s leading accreditation for business improvement, people management and continuous investment in staff. The Birmingham based bank has also achieved a ‘One Star’ rating in The Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For Survey 2014.
Unity Trust Bank Head of Human Resources Kay Gossage said of the Bank’s considerable achievements:
“Unity first gained IIP accreditation in 2003 and we have continued to use the framework to improve our business, moving through Bronze and Silver on our journey. As we join the top 7% of UK accredited businesses, the IIP Gold standard shows our dedication to providing a great workplace for our staff, creating a positive culture that places high regard on social values, personal development, and the willingness of the bank and our people to work together to continuously improve our services to our customers.
“We have been taking part in The Sunday Times ‘Best Companies to Work for Survey’ for a number of years and I am delighted that this year we have achieved ‘One Star’ status. 93% of our employees completed the survey and I am extremely proud of their commitment, professionalism and loyalty, enabling us to create the amazing workplace that we have.”
IIP assessed the Bank against 10 indicators such as learning and development, recognition and reward, and involvement and empowerment. Unity exceeded over 90% of the IIP requirements, putting them at the pinnacle of staff development accreditation in the UK as a Gold standard organisation.
The Sunday Times Best Companies survey scored businesses across eight workplace factors: leadership, my company, my manager, personal growth, my team, wellbeing, fair deal and giving something back. Unity surpassed the ‘One Star’ benchmark of 659.5 with a score of 760.3.
A very different type of bank, Unity is not driven solely by profit maximisation and its commitment to positive social impact is embedded in the Bank’s founding principles. Unity offers banking services and loan finance to over 10,000 social economy organisations across the UK.
The accolades are not the first in recent months for Unity. Further evidence of its commitment to staff saw it awarded the West Midlands Living Wage Champion in November 2014. Unity also runs an employee share ownership plan, giving employees a meaningful stake in the bank.
